DOWN



Jay stood in the middle of the living room, if you could call it 
that, something was wrong with him, but he couldn't figure out what 
it was. He couldn't sleep and his head hurt, but so did his heart 
for some reason. He looked at a window out into the black night and 
he could see his reflection, not to much to look at he was sort of a 
bag of bones, he hadn't been eating much lately. He chewed at his 
lip and sat down on the couch.

Sick and Tired of this world
There's no more air
Trippin' over myself

Jay put his head in his hands and sighed heavily. There seemed to be 
a weight on his back. He wanted to scream but he couldn't not 
without waking up Bob.
"Bob." he let the name of his companion roll off his tongue happily. 
He wished Bob was there with him and maybe they could talk and then 
he would feel better, but he didn't want to wake him up. 
He stood up and walked out of their apartment and climbed up some 
stairs until he got to the roof exit, he opened the door and stepped 
into the cold New Jersey night air. He walked along the roof for 
some ways until he got to the edge of the roof. Jay sat down and 
hung his legs off the edge.
"What are you doing man," he said to himself. "This is probably 
about that girl the other day who you couldn't talk outta her 
clothes." He nodded, yeah that was it. But he knew that wasn't it, 
not by a long shot. He'd been thinking about Bob a lot lately, 
stealing glances at his friend when he thought he wasn't looking. He 
knew deep inside that something had happened to him over the last 
years, something he didn't want to admit to himself. He had fallen 
in love with Bob.
"He'd probably kick my ass for doin' something stupid like that," he 
mumbled as he gave into his realization and hot tears stung his 
eyes. "Jay yous stupid fuck," he muttered as his tears ran down his 
cheeks onto his sweat pants. His heart ached with a need for Bob as 
he let himself go on the roof. He wanted him so badly but he knew it 
could never be, Bob wasn't that way.
"Shit I'm not even supposed to be this way!" he said grudgingly. He 
looked down at the ground so far away and decided it, he wouldn't 
have to hurt or go through sleepless nights if he was dead, he 
wouldn't even have to be anymore. His hair wiped around his face in 
the wind as he stood up and took a deep breath.

Waiting
Suffocating
No direction
And I took a dive

The air rushed past him as he sped towards the ground he waited for 
sweet release and death to come when something soft and warm wrapped 
around him and he wasn't falling anymore.

Jay opened his eyes and saw the big, beautiful, scared eyes of his 
love. Bob was hanging onto him for dear life standing on their fire 
escape. He pulled Jay up onto the railing and Jay pushed himself 
away from him.
"Let go of me you tubby bitch," he said angrily as he stormed inside 
trying to suppress his urge to run back and hang onto Bob and tell 
him how wonderful it felt to have the mans arms around him for just 
that moment.
"Jay," said Bob tentatively.
"What!?" asked Jay angrily as he rummaged through the cupboards in 
the kitchen.
"Why did you jump off the roof?" asked Bob as he walked back in and 
closed the window.
"Seein' if I could fly that's why," said Jay trying to hold back the 
tears and the words that wanted to come spilling out of him.
"Why did you really jump off the roof?" asked Bob walking into the 
kitchen and making Jay face him. "Talk to me." 
Jay looked everywhere but into Bob's eyes, he couldn't handle that 
look, that look of caring, that look of. Love?

"I didn't want to feel anymore," said Jay though his teeth trying 
desperately to hold back his tears.
"Why?"
"Because it hurts," a tear slipped down his cheek.
"Why do you hurt?" asked Bob and he reached up and wiped the tear 
away from his cheek.
"Because. because I love you," whispered Jay looking down at his 
feet as more tears came falling out of his eyes.
"Is that all?" asked Bob smiling; he tilted Jay's face back up and 
smiled wider.
"What?" asked Jay angry that his friend would smile at his pain.
Bob shook his head and leaned forward, kissing Jay softly on the 
lips.

Jay stood dumbstruck staring at Bob. Bob smiled and laughed.
"Do you. I mean are you." Jay stammered.
"I can't believe you never noticed," said Bob wiping away the rest 
of Jay's tears. Jay's eyes lit up and more tears began to flow down 
his cheeks. Bob pulled his close and held him. He stroked Jay's hair 
and told him it would be all right now while Jay cried himself out.

Jay couldn't believe it, all this time Bob had loved him back and he 
hadn't even known it. He burred his face in the man's chest smelling 
his wonderful smell and feeling his arms tight around him, safe. He 
looked back up and Bob and couldn't keep the smile off his face. Bob 
leaned down and planted another more passionate kiss on Jay's lips 
and Jay returned it gladly.
